The St. John’s River in Jacksonville, Florida flows in close proximity to a very spacious white building that houses Bever Steet Fisheries. The mural that decorates the facade of this building is of a most intriguing design. Titled “Eikosi” by internationally renowned artist Etnik of Turin, Italy, its focus on Plato’s sacred geometry and the element water makes for a fascinating visual combination.

About The Mural

The inspiration for the mural is hinted at in several different statements that Etnik has made. The Icosahedron is the Platonic shape that represents water. With the river being so close, and Etnik mentioning the water-centric power of Florida, this mural visually represents both nature and that which is geometrically complex.

I personally really appreciate the mural’s school of fish in aqua blue water in a circular shape that begins one side of this giant artpiece. The fish are enclosed in a geometric shape. The middle of the mural is made of several different geometric shapes, some rather cubist, they appear both random and yet precisely executed. I love the delicate waves of turquoise water that remind us viewers of nature existing even in the geometric imposition of cityscapes. The other end of the mural also has a fanciful curving wave-like form. It boasts an interesting and peculiar geometric shape in salmon colored paint, (this, to an extent bookends the right end of the piece as the left side is graced with a smaller replica).

About The Artist

The artist named Entik, from Turin, Italy, has been a figure of great importance to the classical graffiti scene. He rose to fame when he began to challenge the common boundaries of this artistic genre in the 1990s. 2001 is when he began his odyssey of geometric forms, and evidenced by his Jacksonville Mural, he has become quite the master at this concept. He is considered an international artist, showcased in magazines and other well known publications.
