Greek artist Fikos was part of the 22 artists that participated in the third edition of the Jidar – Toiles De Rue festival in Rabat, Morocco. Fikos spent 10 days in Rabat painting a mural inspired by Greek and Moroccan mythology.

About The Mural

The wall depicts the “Hesperides“, the nymphs of evening and golden light of sunset. The Greek myth tells that the nymphs, together with the dragon Ladon (often depicted as a snake), had the task of protecting the tree with golden apples in the Garden of Hesperides, the place visited by Hercules in order to complete his eleventh labor. This garden, according to scholars, was located in Morocco, north of Rabat. This is how the artist was able to find the connection between Greek myth and Morocco.

About The Artist

Fikos was born in 1987 in Athens where he resides. He studied Byzantine painting starting at the age of 13. In his works, Fikos creates the union between the monumental byzantine technique and the contemporary street art. The themes of his murals emanate from the Orthodox Christian tradition and ancient Greek mythology respectively. Having a background as a graffiti artist and an iconographer in Orthodox Christian churches, Fikos is continuing his developmental journey by painting murals in public places. Besides Greece, his work has been exhibited in France, Bulgaria, England, Ireland, Ukraine, Austria, Lithuania, Switzerland, Norway, Mexico and Morocco.
