The Dutch artist duo Telmo Pieper and Miel Krutzmann that operate under the moniker TelmoMiel, recently finished a mural for Mural Goes in Goes, Holland. Titled ‘Who?,’ they created a dreamlike piece with quite the clever concept that natives and visitors of the city are sure to enjoy.

About the Mural

The duo are accomplished at painting large-scale murals depicting traditional figures, however it’s their signature style – distorting and overlapping realistic renderings that result in imagery that’s wonderfully dreamlike and surrealism. Who?,’ in particular is layered in different hues of blue, purple and orange that gives the individual softness and a wonderful sense of depth. Aiming to bring across positivity, humor and a touch of the romantic to their work, the artists had a fun experience creating this piece.

They Added: ‘’People walking bye were very interested to know who we were painting. It became a topic, questions back and forth. Actually we painted an unknown figure compiled out of several, to create someone somewhat anonymous. Painting unknown figures forces the viewer to look at other things a bit. Rather then just recognizing the person, in this form it can hopefully initiate further thought. Or at least the appreciation has to come from something else in this case, which is pleasing to us if achieved.
Sometimes it’s weird to think that every life is as substantial as the other, because we’re so involved in our own things. People walking bye on a daily base are kind of a hollow facade, a sort of background characters in your own Truman show. Only because they are unknown to you.
The same type of growth happens with a painting. First it’s new, it’s exciting and frightening at the same time. Afterwards comes the settlement in which you kinda know what you’re dealing with. Followed by it being loved or rejected, or just accepted.
Hopefully this portrait will be loved by the inhabitants of Goes.”

About the Artists

Miel (Amsterdam, born May ’84 ) and Telmo (Rotterdam, born June ’89) met at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in 2007. The two continued on to start their first crew, Codex Inferno, which eventually became the partnership they have today in 2012. That year, the two artists also created their creative company Sober Collective, based in Rotterdam as well. Almost everything that was learned, they got from working with each other. Telmo and Miel started to do murals together, with individual pieces into one composition. This evolved into painting one image together, creating concepts and designs as a duo.
