For its third edition, which took place from June 18th to June 24th, Without Frontiers, Lunetta a Colori, organizers invited street artist Sebas Velasco to paint a wall in Bezel, a neighborhood in Lunetta. Velasco is a Spanish-born artist who started exploring graffiti in 2004; he further developed his creative style at the University of País Vasco (UPV/EHU) where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts. His work is mostly found on walls and the tables that he designs – his materials of choice are oil paint, acrylic, spray paint and pencils.
In this instance, Velasco chose to paint Malick LK, a boy of Senegalese origin whose family chose to move into this neighborhood five years ago. His artistic style is recognizable. There’s a photographic quality to his work that is raw, gritty – authentic. As with most of his work, the photographic aspect of this mural works symbiotically with the look and feel of an oil painting, and for all intents and purposes, is conveyed seamlessly to its observers. This latest endeavour is entitled Tempesta Silenziosa (Quiet Storm).
