The American Dream By Jofre Oliveras

Vittoria Benzine Vittoria Benzine December 23, 2019

One’s relationship to the place where they live largely depends upon their privilege, stemming either from the environment they were born into or the circumstances affecting their life. Either way, the experience of any one place is different for every person inhabiting that place. Rankings like those provided by US News incorporate metrics considering cost …

Banksy’s Silence on Gaza: A Surprising Shift in the Artist’s Activism

Sami Wakim Sami Wakim November 19, 2024

Banksy, the enigmatic street artist whose works have long served as social and political commentary, has often championed the plight of the oppressed. His art has critiqued war, capitalism, and systemic injustice in stark, often haunting ways. One of his most powerful gestures was the opening of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem in 2017, …

2 Murals For Urban Myths In Minsk, Belarus

Vittoria Benzine Vittoria Benzine December 30, 2019

This month witnessed the completion of the massive “Future” Triptych in Minsk, Belarus. The project, initiated by Urban Myths, consists of “three huge murals on the walls of 12-story buildings near the wide road in Minsk, which is a kind of ‘gateway of the city’ on the west side,” according to a press release by …

Have we come to see
We’re only free when Palestine is free
Every light we grieve
Returns to heal the river to the sea

We’re only free when Palestine is free
Long as we may breathe
We turn to heal the river to the sea
No more rest in peace

“Ceasefire is only the beginning. We’ve got to hold each other close and stay focused for all the work ahead.
So many people’s love, energy and skill made it sound so expansive and beautiful. I’m so grateful for everyone who contributed—I love what we’ve made together. I hope the joy in solidarity will resonate boundlessly”

“Souvenir”
Our latest mural painting realized in Wien, Austria, for @biennale.wien (opening today).Curated by @callelibre

Thank you @marlenemeth for the big help during the realization. Thank you @bausolini, Konstantin and the whole @callelibre team. @Thank you @hektormeetsworld and the whole @biennalewien team.

“Souvenir” was created within the framework of the Klima Biennale Wien, a project promoted by KunstHausWien, and curated by Calle Libre. Included in the “(No) Funny Games” program, the work is part of a broader reflection that uses apparent lightness and visual appeal as a device to critically address the social and environmental implications of the climate crisis.
The artwork brings together layered narratives into a single tension, where the natural environment appears transformed and distant, no longer experienced as a shared system but as a controlled, almost simulated construct. This reflects a perception of nature emptied of empathy, in which the relationship between humans and ecosystems is reduced to a utilitarian vision.
An apparent lightness emerges through the gesture of play, which simplifies complexity and avoids consequences. In this sense, play becomes a metaphor for a superficial approach to deep and irreversible processes, contributing to a loss of awareness.
The presence of industrial materials such as plastic directly links human production to environmental transformation, presenting climate change as the outcome of altered relationships rather than an external event.
“Souvenir” functions as an image-synthesis, condensing memory, perception and responsibility into a simplified fragment, reflecting on the risk that urgent realities may be reduced to distant representations.

“Beat of Two Lands”
Jounieh, Lebanon — 2025 🇱🇧

After spending time in Lebanon and deciding to stay, Paola Delfín recognized the importance of continuing to create and share what has long been part of her identity. She carries with her the legacy of Mexican muralism—shaped by artists like Camarena, Rivera, and Aurora Reyes—an artistic tradition that represents her country and has profoundly influenced her life and career.

Her work is rooted in the transformative power of intentional art—art that fosters both personal and collective healing. Bringing this practice to the places she calls home has always been central to her vision. With this intention, she proposed the mural to @embamexlibano and @jaquimldnd, who embraced the idea with openness and heart ❤️

Created in 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between 🇱🇧 and 🇲🇽, the mural stands as a tribute to the shared history between two nations separated by seas, yet connected through common values: the beauty of their lands, a deep love for them, and the universal right to live with dignity.

Lebanon has been generous to her. While Mexico remains her homeland, Lebanon has also become a place she calls home.

The city of @jouniehmunicipality welcomed this vision, receiving its first mural along its scenic coastline.

Inspired by The Two Fridas by Frida Kahlo, a symbol of strength and deeply honest expression, the composition reflects the connection between two identities. Represented by chaza_kassar and @jaquimldnd, the figures wear traditional garments from both cultures and are surrounded by symbolic elements—the cedar and the nopal—resilient emblems of two nations that continue to rise with dignity and generosity 🤍

Special thanks 🙏🏽

The myth of Pygmalion shows a basic principle: humans can become subordinate to what they produce.
Under capitalism, this takes a concrete form. Social media is both a means of production and a mechanism of control. It is owned by companies that profit from time and attention.
Users don’t produce consciousness; they produce data. Their activity is turned into a commodity. The image functions as continuous consumption: it leaves no time to process, no space to organize. Identity dissolves into patterns imposed by the market.

Dependence is not an individual issue; it is a structural requirement of the system.

The reversal of the myth is material: the product dominates the producer. The modern Pygmalion does not control what he created. He is absorbed into it and functions for its reproduction.

Palestinian Gems: Elia Suleiman

A clip from the film The Time That Remains by director Elia Suleiman.

A satirical semi-autobiographical film, it covers three different stages of Suleiman’s life and the history of Palestine with Zionism: the early 1970s following the death of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the mid-1980s just before the First Intifada, and the mid-2000s after the Second Intifada. The film also includes a prologue depicting the 1948 Nakba.

An exceptional film by all standards.
