The American Dream By Jofre Oliveras

Vittoria Benzine Vittoria Benzine December 23, 2019

One’s relationship to the place where they live largely depends upon their privilege, stemming either from the environment they were born into or the circumstances affecting their life. Either way, the experience of any one place is different for every person inhabiting that place. Rankings like those provided by US News incorporate metrics considering cost …

Banksy’s Silence on Gaza: A Surprising Shift in the Artist’s Activism

Sami Wakim Sami Wakim November 19, 2024

Banksy, the enigmatic street artist whose works have long served as social and political commentary, has often championed the plight of the oppressed. His art has critiqued war, capitalism, and systemic injustice in stark, often haunting ways. One of his most powerful gestures was the opening of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem in 2017, …

The Poetry of Collapse: The Aesthetic and Activism of Murmure

Sami Wakim Sami Wakim June 2, 2026

Since 2010, the French artistic duo Murmure—composed of visual artists Paul Ressencourt and Simon Roché—has been quietly restructuring how we interact with the urban canvas. Originally founded as a creative studio, the duo eventually stripped away commercial constraints to engage directly with the public, shifting their visual focus toward the raw textures of public space. …

Interview: Dot Dot Dot

Sami Wakim Sami Wakim February 7, 2014

DOT DOT DOT is the pseudonym for an anonymous Norway-based graffiti artist. He first started as a graffiti artist in 1997. Operating under several different pseudonyms over the following years, he decided to step into a more figurative and conceptual mode of art. Around 2007 he started to do stencil art, but continued to do …

BREAKING: Activists unveil Marwan Barghouti statue in Parliament Square

Today, activists unveiled a new statue of Marwan Barghouti in Parliament Square, but were then intercepted by police.

Marwan Barghouti has been imprisoned by Israel for 24 years, 1 month and 19 days for crimes he did not commit. He was convicted by a court he did not recognise in a trial widely criticised by legal experts and human rights observers.

A sitting Palestinian parliamentarian at the time of his arrest, he remains, more than two decades later, the most popular choice for Palestinian leadership in opinion polls.
Often called ‘Palestine’s Mandela’, he is a powerful symbol of hope and a long-time advocate for freedom and dignity for the Palestinian people.

Nelson Mandela was once politically isolated and labelled a terror*st before being recognised as a global symbol of freedom and justice. Marwan Barghouti faces a similar fate.

The statue may not stand in Parliament Square yet, but we know this is a just cause. One day, Marwan will take his rightful place alongside other civil rights leaders.

Free Marwan. Free Palestine.

Huge thanks to the @upfest team for the invitation and for such an amazing edition ✨
So happy to have shared this week with so many incredible artists, great conversations and beautiful moments.

A big thank you as well to all the people from the neighborhood for the warm welcome and kindness throughout the whole painting process

And a special mention to @dearoldthing whose universe, objects and timeless atmosphere inspired this entire mural. Without this place, this flying house probably would never have existed.

A tribute to Alfred the Gorilla, one of Bristol’s most iconic figures. 🦍

Painted in Bristol for @cabotcircus in collaboration with @upfest .

The blue layer shows Alfred alive, sitting in front of the moon.
The red layer reveals his skeleton surrounded by blooming flowers. A reflection on memory, mortality, and the legacy he left behind.

Alfred arrived at Bristol Zoo in 1930 and became a symbol of the city for generations. Even decades after his death, his story remains deeply connected to Bristol’s identity.

‘A FAMILIAR STRANGER’

The café held the last warmth of the evening — amber light, untouched coffee, the safety of staying still. Outside, the rain turned the street blue as he slowed beneath the window, searching for the courage to come in. They knew each other once, but only in fragments: late conversations, missed timings, a goodbye neither of them meant properly. She had already seen him through the glass and pretended not to. In another moment, the door will open, bringing the cold in with him, and both of them will have to decide whether this is a second chance or simply another passing night
