During the month of September the UPEA street art festival takes place drawing locals and tourists alike. Organized by the non profit association Upeart, the multi-city street-art festival invites the most talented artists from all over the world to create large-scale murals and public artwork. For its third edition, the 12 different cities include Kotka, Espoo, Helsinki, Hyvinkää, Iisalmi, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kemi, Oulu, Salo, Seinäjoki and Tampere.
With ten days to the end of the month, works have already been completed in Iisalmi, Espoo, Salo and Oulu. More murals are currently underway in the eight other locations across the country.
Cans this year are sprayed by Andrew Hem, Case Maclaim, David de la Mano, Sainer, Fabio Petani (IT), Leon Keer, Gummy Gue, Helen Bur, Sepe, How & Nosm, Isaac Cordal, Jussi TwoSeven, Kenor, Mantra, Natalia Rak, Robert Proch, Pertti Jarla, Eero Lampinen, Silja Selonen and Waone.
Petani finished a massive mural depicting leaves and flowers that spans across three facades of the salon’s silos building titled “Methanol & Anemone Coronaria,” as well as Leon Keer, that painted a striking 3D piece for the salon Police Station. Kotka received two delightful mosaics by Waone and Helen Bur. Other completed works include a photorealistic mural in Espoo by Case Maclaim, as well as Howdy & Nosm in Lisalmi and Andrew Hem in Oulu.
Eero Lampinen also started the painting of Murano at the beginning of the week , conducting a work planned for co-operation with residents in Helsinki Vaasankatu. The Kenor abstract work, launched last week, is also being made on two facades of the Kemi Prima House.
Soon to kick off are projects in Tampere, where Pertti Jarla’s humorous Fingerpori wall will be implemented. Also In Seinäjoki, an 8 story residence will be transformed by Gummy Guen as well as Sepe in Jyväskylä.
