About Green Candy

Green Candy is an art action aimed at creating community conversation around waste and sustainability through interactive and participatory art.
For this first edition of the event, Justkids has chosen particular artworks that deal creatively with themes around waste, ecosystems and sustainability. It could be determined either through the artist choice of material, the context where the piece is situated and/or through their selected iconography. Justkids curator Charlotte Dutoit selected excellent International artists Bordalo II, Ernest Zacharevic, Bicicleta Sem Freio, Marina Zumi, as well as locals Jason Jones and Gina Gallina.

The event was commissioned by Experience Fayetteville, the convention and visitor center of the city, and ran parallel to Fayetteville Roots Festival, a celebrated event important for its efforts to leave zero carbon footprint.

About the artworks

Argentinian artist Marina Zumi painted a large scale rendering of her cosmic beehives produced in tune to the recent eclipse to pay homage to micro and macro balance.
Portuguese artist Bordalo II assembled his characteristic 3d eco-sculpture made out of trash that depicts the local fauna mid-battle. The piece is titled “Deer Half Deer” and is located in the front yard of the city’s historic Walker Stone House.
Brazilian duo Bicicleta Sem Freio took over the interior of the historical building, creating a tropical environment.
Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic playfully depicted the Arkansas Black Bears climbing up the Downtown Fayetteville square’s buildings trying to get in through the windows.
Local artist Jason Jones painted a mural that depicts a big rabbit with a gas mask that feeds from a tank of green hills.
Finally local artist Gina Gallina created a giant strawberry yarn installation piece hanging from a tree.
