Spanish based artist Hyuro just completed a mural in the historical Neighberhood of Cabnyal in Valencia, Spain. This mural was curated by Poliniza Dos which is the Urban Art initiative of the Universitat Politècnica de València.
About The Mural
According to Hyuro, the Cabanyal neighborhood is a Protected Historical Set of the city of Valencia, declared Good of Cultural Interest in 1993. Since 1998 the neighborhood was threatened by a municipal project that intended to expand an avenue that runs through its central part. The project to extend the avenue involves the destruction of 1651 homes. This project, not only would destroy a Historic Set with centuries-old buildings but also a way of life, of social and human relations. Once again we witness the eternal confrontation between the conservation of the heritage or the speculative development of a city.
The house where this wall is painted on, was going to be the first to being demolished if the project had been carried out, it is located at the beginning of what would have been the extension of the avenue.
About The Artist
The Argentinian born, Spanish based street artist Hyuro is know for blending politics and historical struggles in dreamlike compositions, depicting women and figures that are often decapitated, that suggest a message or narrative but leave most interpretation up to the viewer.
Hyuro began her career working on the canvas and continues to produce paintings and drawings, but in recent years has focused her practice on the streets of Valencia, Spain and Throughout Europe.
