Nestled in the French Alps is Grenoble, a rural and undeveloped area in France where a wide range of wildlife can be found. For this years’ edition of the Grenoble Street Art Fest, the Spanish street-artist Dulk created a stunning mural titled “The Guardian” that brought attention to the lynx, a species of wild cats which are endangered.

About the Mural

After their complete disappearance from the Alpine arc, a successful reintroduction of projects have given the lynx a second chance in the Alps. Since the early 1970s, programmes in France and Switzerland have already enabled the wildcat species to expand its range and establish new homes.

Portrayed in Dulk’s surrealist style using vibrant colors that capture the viewer’s attention “The Guardian” talks about the balance in ecosystems, Ironically, the main threat to biodiversity is human action. The damage caused to biodiversity affects not only the species that inhabit a specific place, but also damages the network of relationships between species, modifying their behavior and evolution.

Dulk created a striking portrait of the lynx with a nest of eggs in the center of its chest. It is here that the artist illustrates biodiversity, to portray a system in constant evolution, both in each species and in each individual organism.

About Dulk

Dulk is an all-purpose artist. Between urban art, drawing, painting, sculpture, each medium is a challenge that he takes up with pleasure and determination. His art has evolved in a remarkable way in recent years but its essence has always been the same. His naturalistic worlds show us a tragi-comic and surrealistic themed landscape full of details, sometimes real sometimes fiction but always inviting us to dive on them. His compositions recreate biological environments involved in antagonistic concepts. With a soft chromatic palette, Dulk creates a oneiric narrative scenario full of characters, which is the first visualization transmits beauty and calm but that will lead us to a deeper meaning in the following observations. The artistic evolution of the work is projected beyond the perfection of the technique and the detail that invite you to get lost or the spaces where you can get carried away. The study has led to subsequent incorporation into a plastic language, endowing creations with the autonomy that allows the viewer to be free in the dialogue with the work and share with it an open story.
