o sciore cchiù felice,” translated from Italian as “The Happiest Flower,” is the most recent work by Piedmont artist Fabio Petani. The mural is the seventh work of art in the Parco dei Murales of Ponticelli, a project of artistic redevelopment and social regeneration conceived and curated by INWARD in Naples, Italy.

About the Mural

The mural, which combines botanical elements and bright geometric shapes, was inspired by the research of botanist Aldo Merola, former director of the Royal Botanical Garden in Naples. Dedicated to the wealth and knowledge of the local areas, it depicts an Arum italicum, a native plant that has its flowering in March, the same month when the work of art was started. The Italian Arum has local significance, and in ancient times, was considered a magical plant, having powers to avert and ward off evil spirits.

The project involved the participation of local youth and families, who took a guided tour of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Naples, and later drew pictures of everything they photographed that inspired them. The artistic impressions created by the young participants were then sent to the artist, who used them as visual inspiration for the project.

About the Artist

Fabio Petani was born in Pinerolo, Turin, Italy in 1987. He received an M.A. in Cultural Heritage from the University of Turin, with an MA thesis on Urban Art and culture from the origins to this day. He is currently an active member of the local urban creativity scene, and member of the cultural association ‘Il Cerchio e le Gocce’.  His murals often depict elements from the periodic table, “telling a tale between art and nature through chemistry.” His works are inspired by flora, and feature organic forms harmoniously mixed with geometric elements and industrial structures.

About the Curator

Parco dei Murales is an artistic restoration project curated by INWARD, an observatory that carries out research and development in the field of urban creativity (street art, urban design, graffiti, muralism).
