The Spanish street-artist Hyuro recently finished a new mural as part of the “Recuperem La Punta, aturem la ZAL” a protest project in La Punta. The historic and traditional city is recognized for its orchards, and over the years its natural and social environment has been severely damaged by the unstoppable growth of the Port of València. Despite being recognized as a “non-developable area of special protection”, it has been a victim of repeated abuses by administrations. Now, located around various places of the neighborhood are installations and murals that aim to raise awareness of the importance of protecting La Huerta from further destruction.
About the Mural
Hyuro painted a striking detailed image depicting a male throwing tomatoes. Referencing the vegetable garden, her outstanding ability to create hyper realistic pictorials shows the man dressed in baggy clothes and masked under a headscarf with his arm raised, as if ready to propel it into the air.
“The action of throwing tomatoes universally means rejection, this wall speaks about rejection to all these unbridled urban projects, predators, driven by their own interests without taking into account the life and rights of the people.” – Hyuro
About the Artist
Hyuro is an Argentinian born artist best known for her black and white murals, paintings and drawings focused on visual expression.
Over the years she’s managed to create a name in urban art circles by blending politics and surrealist sensibility into dreamlike compositions. The characters she creates are dark, often of decapitated figures, dreary women, and animals.
