The urban art initiative Urban Nation – known for their One Wall project and most recently for the opening of the first contemporary urban art museum in Schöneberg invited the Swiss duo Nevercrew to Berlin to paint a new mural titled “Reification.”

About the Mural

This work takes direct inspiration from the architectonic structure on which it’s located and aligns to the “Unity” concept proposed by Urban Nation for its curatorial project.

The two subjects are placed one on each wall, with a physical and real division in between; like reciprocal reflections that interpret each other while floating/sinking separately. They are opposite yet complementary, they seem to be part of the same original whole, now divided or going to unite again.

The mural represents a need for understanding and awareness for what’s on the other side and around. It is about common responsibilities and aims, despite distances and differences.  A lost balance between humankind and nature and with human nature itself, towards the resultant mutual vulnerability and a potential cooperative participation.

About NEVERCREW

NEVERCREW is a Swiss street-artist duo, Christian Rebecchi and Pablo Togni. Since 1996 they have been creating murals, sculptures and installations. As animal activists, their work observes endangered species illustrated by painting whales or polar bears trapped/destroyed by the human attitude.
This path led NEVERCREW to develop their current approach and to create artworks in cities all over the world.

About Urban Nation

Since 2013, URBAN NATION has been transforming Berlin’s facades into a giant outdoor gallery and connecting people with the city using outdoor art and integrative neighbourhood projects. Their initiatives aim to activate communities and bring together cultures in urban districts. Opening its doors to established and emerging artists, it awakes interest and promotes talent while enhancing  cultural heritage. Through their mural projects, workshops and exhibitions they have continued to use urban art to build enthusiasm around the city’s neighbourhoods.
