ABOUT POW! WOW!
POW! – It’s the impact that art has on a person. WOW! – It’s reaction that art has on a viewer. Together they form POW! WOW!, which is a Native American term that describes a gathering that celebrates culture, music and art. Centered around a week-long event that includes gallery shows, lecture series, mural projects, concerts, and live art installations, POW! WOW! brings international and local artists together to create murals and other forms of art. The festival has visited cities and destinations such as Taiwan, Long Beach, Hawaii, D.C. and now Worcester, MA.
How did it all start
The idea of doing a mural festival in Worcester started two years ago, after Jessica Walsh and Che Anderson contacted Jasper Wong, founder of POW! WOW! Worldwide, in the hopes to form POW! WOW! Worcester and bring a mural festival to New England.
About the Festival
POW! WOW! Worcester is a ten day festival-style celebration, developed to strengthen community engagement, neighborhood beautification and regional tourism in the New England area.
The aim of POW! WOW! Worcester is to help establishing Worcester as a visitor destination. The ten day festival-style celebration that ended on September 4th, 2016, appealed to a diverse audience and featured the curation of approximately 15 murals, artist panels, outdoor celebrations and other events developed to strengthen community engagement and regional tourism.
The mural line up included renowned street artists locally and internationally:
Rustam QBic (Russia), Askew One (New Zealand), Angelina Christina (California), Sabek (Spain), Above (Berlin), Marka27 (Massachusetts), Imagine (Nepal), Morgan Blair (New York), Arlin (Brazil), Greg Mike (Gerogia), Fanakapan (UK), JALLEN/Sophy Tuttle (Massachusetts), Jason Eatherly (Texas), Dan Witz (New York).
POW! WOW! Worcester is committed to making the City a more culturally dynamic place by activating spaces, engaging in the arts, and generating pride in the Downtown area.
POW! WOW! Worcester was put on by local nonprofit Action! Worcester and a collaborative organizing committee comprised of passionate members of the local nonprofit, business, creative and collegiate community.
