Two years after Underground at Ink Block first launched, transforming a hidden South End parking lot into a unique urban park and outdoor gallery, Boston has continued to embrace street art. From Okudart in the Seaport to Super A on the Greenway, top tier artists from around the world have made a point to come and paint in Massachusetts. At the same time, local powerhouse talent (like Underground artists Imagine, Marka27, Problak, Percy Fortini Wright, Silvia Lopez Chavez, Cedric Douglas and many others) have powered a wave of street and mural art in places like Cambridge, Lynn, Salem and Worcester.

Don Rimx At The Underground Ink Block – Sep 2017

Starting next week, Street Theory is inviting you to celebrate as Boston expands its collection of outdoor art with the launch of seven new murals at Underground Ink Block (June 24 – 29).  We’re hoping to shine a spotlight on all of the artists involved this year, but especially local artists Dana Woulfe, Silvia López Chavez, Marka27, GoFive, Matthew Zaremba, who have deep connections to Boston and the surrounding community. This year’s mural project also features Spanish artist Muro, who will be arriving in Boston this week, fresh from painting two outdoor basketball courts in the Canary Islands. Bringing some New York flavor to Boston, Indie 184 and Greg LaMarche round out the colorful lineup.

Kicking things off on June 15, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum will host Urban Renaissance: Alternative Visions of a City through Street Art, Creative Economy and Community, presented in partnership with Street Theory, to celebrate the launch of the new murals. The event will feature a panel talk-back, DJ performance by Gucci Vuitton, a multi-media installation, and will explore street art’s role in the creative economy and its impact on urban communities.
