Tristan Eaton was all smiles Thursday night during the opening of his NYC pop-up STRANGE FUTURE, which packed 198 Allen Street with friends, collectors and fans eager to view the LA-based artist’s new collection of paintings, prints and special releases. The show, which the artist independently produced outside of the traditional  gallery setting runs for one-week only, from October 3-9.

STRANGE FUTURE takes Eaton’s bold collage and pop-art style and illustrates modern themes of sex, crime and war presented through an anaglyphic 3D floor installation and blacklight posters; a clever juxtaposition between the nostalgic and the sinister to depict the reality of the dystopian world we live in.

With only two days left until closing, it’s a must-see exhibition for locals in the area.

“We are living in a STRANGE FUTURE. Yet no one predicted how silly our dystopia would be…

I always loved Pulp novels, Sci-Fi comics and Horror movies until I realized that we’re now living in one. The subversive storytelling in American Pulp, Horror and Sci-Fi have long influenced my art and myoutlook on the world but more importantly these dark renditions of the future have become prophetic, forcing life to imitate art in the most perverse way.

No matter how we got to this point, we are all a little responsible for our collective compulsions and embar-rassingly human urges that led to this dysfunctional, sci-fi future we find ourselves in. America in 2019 is a badly written, well illustrated pulp novel that exposes our deeply seated evil and profound stupidi-ty. These paintings are the cover art.” – Tristan Eaton

About the Artist

Born in L.A. in 1978, Tristan Eaton started pursuing street art as a teenager, painting everything from billboards to dumpsters in the urban landscapes of the cities where he lived, be it London, Detroit, or New York. He designed his first toy for Fisher-Price at 18 years old and soon became a driving force in the world of designer toys. Eaton’s work for Kidrobot, including the famous Dunny and Munny art toys, helped him achieve international renown and an ever-growing fan base. After forming his Creative Agency Thunderdog Studios in New York City in 2004, Eaton became a leader in the advertising and commercial-art spheres, and is regularly commissioned by a roster of clients that includes Nike, Versace, and even Barack Obama.

These days, Eaton is one of the most prominent street artists working today. Eaton’s large scale mural work features a meticulous, visual collage of pop imagery mixed with his unique personal style, all executed with freehand spray paint on a colossal scale. Eaton now focuses on his Fine Art and large-scale mural work full-time, which can be found in dozens of cities across the globe from Paris to Shanghai.

Eaton’s work can also be seen in the Museum of Modern Art‘s (MoMA) permanent collection.
