The pandemic situation is thankfully now clearing up in Denmark and after a long period of closed doors; KIRK Gallery is happy to present the return of Herakut. The internationally acclaimed artist duo from Germany will premiere their upcoming solo show Mixed Feelings from March 6th.

Hera (Jasmin Siddiqui) and Akut (Falk Lehmann) formed in 2004.  Since partnering up, they have worked on various global art projects painting numerous murals around the world; their sensational 50m long ‘Your Stories make me forget those Prison Bars’ mural for KIRK Gallery in 2018 amongst them. The duo are represented at many progressive art galleries and museums, and I can attest that their recent installation for Schoeni Projects’ disCONNECT London show was a phenomenal success. It was a joy to be immersed in the otherworldly townhouse room transformed by the pair following the constraint of the first UK lockdown.

In a narrative imagery, the work of Herakut takes shape in a very unique expression where Hera’s sensuous but rough strokes define the shape and proportion of the artworks, while Akut adds the photorealistic details.  The further process is determined jointly by the two artists. With the show being a mix of collaboration and solo pieces, these extravagant works are also featured separately. While Hera is classically trained working with a mix of medias, Akut is autodidact and works only with spray. Bridging the gap between the two methods, the duo has accomplished a completely distinctive expression.

The characters in Herakut’s works often appear in a context of social fractions and collective constraints incorporated in quotes about love and the complexity of human relationships. Hence, the degree of contrasts is endless where the dream world of a child often attribute features from animals. Equally, their gallery pieces, installations and canvases are characterized by their narrative style and their ability to lead the viewer into imaginary worlds.
